For nearly 40 years, John Van Alstine has explored the complex synergy between natural forces and man-made elements in his abstract sculptures of stone and steel. He achieves unique and contemporary perspectives on themes that have engaged landscape artists for generations. Van Alstine’s work is found in the permanent collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American Art, and the Phillips Collection, to name but a few.
